I. What Happened?
Yahoo has been hit by a data breach for a number of years. That was sometime in 2012 until 2016. It was stated that the first attack happened in 2012. But according to Yahoo, during the first attack, no information was taken.
However, the following attack happened in the following year, 2013. Moreover, this time, hackers successfully obtained more than 3 billion Yahoo accounts’ information.
For instance, personally identifiable information (PII) of Yahoo account holders were taken. Namely, the following:
- Registered Names
- Email Addresses
- Contact Numbers
- Birth Dates
- Passwords
- Answers to Account’s Security Questions
In addition, calendars and contact lists of account holders were also taken. All of these happened in probably three separate attacks.
Because of this, Yahoo took responsibility for people’s information. They filed a $117,500,000 settlement fund.
II. How Will I Know If I Am Part Of The Settlement?
Yahoo account holders during the period of data breach attack are eligible to receive their settlement claim. Specifically, accounts from January 01, 2012, to December 31, 2016. However, this is confirmed if you were able to receive an email as a notice for the breach.

In addition, the following are more qualifying Yahoo accounts:
- Yahoo Fantasy Sports
